The Quadraphonnes:
Portland’s own supergroup, the Quadraphonnes, have been gracing stages up and down the West Coast for 20 years! This single-sex saxophone quartet covers a variety of musical styles, including funk, Latin, rock, and jazz, often inspired by New Orleans brass bands. And in doing so, they unapologetically flaunt female power! They have released multiple albums and recently were featured on the soundtrack to the major motion picture The Holdovers (Miramax 2023).
The Quads are: Miele Bruggerman (baritone sax), Chelsea Luker (alto, soprano saxes), Michelle Medler (tenor sax), and Mary-Sue Tobin (soprano, alto saxes). For this special event, they will be joined by Maria Wulf of Olympia on drums.
The Rhythm Dogs:
Like the Quads, the Rhythm Dogs are celebrating a special anniversary - 25 years of serving up their unique blend of jazz, funk, Latin, samba, reggae/dub, Afrobeat, and beyond. They have released five albums, with their most recent, Rewired, available on all streaming services. They are putting their finishing touches on a brand new album, 25, featuring Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson, Jeff Beck, Bootsy Collins) on guitar and Jamaican dub legend Scientist on the mixing board.
The Dogs are: Chris Azorr (keys), Chuk Barber (vocals, percussion), Mark Burdon (drums, percussion), Greg Scholl (trombone), Mary-Sue Tobin (saxophone, also of the Quads!), and Mark von Bergen (bass).
